Early this morning I was hiking a trail new to me - Placerita Canyon - with a new friend. Her husband hooked us up when he saw on FaceBook that I hiked. LOL
We are just finishing a deliciously cool 5+ mile hike to a waterfall and back when this Western Tanager surprised me. I'm, busy chattering away, not looking for anything, just having a swell time, when HELLO he swooped right in front of me and up into the tree ahead. He caught my eye and stopped my in my tracks with his brilliant yellow and red plumage. My two favorite colors! What a SHOW. What a SHOW OFF!
