From Arita: New Tenant

A couple of weeks ago I found out that my tenants of two years were moving from my house in Nashville to Seattle. It is the phenomenal success of their new business that is relocating them, I am happy for them. Ahhh - time to get new tenants! I thought it, worried briefly about not having that income and then checked the market. Wow! It made sense for me to increase the rent by $200. That felt good. Then I forgot to do anything else about it.

Several days after I got back to LA I thought about the house again. I thought it would be fun to look over old photos for a refreshed posting on Craigslist. I had a great time putting together the photos, falling back in love with the place, realizing that having it as an optional home is such an expansive menu for me, and then writing the perfect description. Because Craigslist is being especially cautious about this sort of listing and making sure everyone is legit, it took a while longer to finish the process than I expected, but I didn't feel any urgency about the approaching end of the month or anything. I felt oddly and fully relaxed. How could there not be some one perfect person out there that would love my house as much as I do? I just knew there was.

Within seconds of its posting, I received an email from a young man asking "Is it still available?" He had been looking for a place for some time and liked it a lot. It was a little convoluted getting the current tenants and a friend and his manager all on the same page to see the house, and before it even happened, the young man called me back and said that he knew he wanted it, and what could he do to make that happen. He saw the ad at exactly the moment that I posted it. He said he had been looking for some time. My posting was at exactly the right time!

As it turns out, he is moving from Charlottesville, Va where my daughter is getting married 10/10/10, and where I have spent some time these past few months in preparation. I am a huge fan of his music (he is the lead singer for Parachute). The price was never even mentioned. His credit is flawless. His means are unlimited (like it is for all of us - and perhaps somewhat more apparent for him), and his move in date is flexible.

I didn't even have a chance to buy a "for sale" sign.
That was easy!
