I was sitting with my dear friends Torsten and Ariana in the sand by the ocean in Santa Monica, having one of our fabulous conversations, whilst looking for dolphins in the water.
We saw a life guard boat and several surfers in a semi circle looking at something in the water, just then a 60 ft. gray whale breached the water!! It was a profoundly joyful moment! Torsten leaped up and was jumping up and down with delight!
We spoke to one of the surfers, who was near the pod of three whales. He said that in 40 years of surfing on this beach, he never experienced a whale breaching that close to shore. He said the whale lifted its head out of the water, and he could see the huge eyes looking all around, at all of us.
It was a truly exquisite Surprise and Delight Moment!
